Polish
President Bronislaw Komorowski signed a Parliament Act "On seeds."
This was reported on January 2 .
According
to the report, the adoption of this document will align Polish legislation with
the European Union one.
The
revised law on dispute issues of growing and the issuance of seed materials
(including regional and amateur varieties), only two positions concerning genetically
modified organisms (GMOs): one - allows registration of GMO seeds, the second -
the turnover of legalized seeds in the country.
So far
in Poland were forbidden registration and circulation of GMO seeds. However,
according to experts, it is not guaranteed the full coverage of the country's
agricultural sector to use it, because farmers can buy the seeds in the
neighboring countries, and uncontrolled use them in their lands.
The new
law also provides a basis for monitoring the crop establishes penalties for
violating regulations, in particular, provides for the elimination of such a
culture by an agricultural producer of the wrongdoing.
Meanwhile,
signing the bill, the President appealed to the Council of Ministers with a
request to prepare a comprehensive settlement of the question of GMOs in a
single-piece law, the development and adoption of which should be accompanied
by extensive consultation in expert circles and the public hearing.
